seeking a friend for the end of the world
This weeks biggest release is Magic Mike – I guess we can call this week Ladies Week! I’m sure all the ladies out there have already rushed out to the nearest Target or any other store and bought it. Here’s a lovely clip from the film: [springboard type=”youtube” id=”B8V6rY1ZJhQ” player=”scin001″ width=”560″ height=”315″
This week we review (briefly and with tight lips) The Dark Knight Rises, Detachment, Magic Mike, Sound of Noise and Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World. We also ponder our favourite and least favourite film/franchise endings and say hello to the lovely Jennifer Lawrence. REVIEWS Gwen –
As someone who is not terribly familiar with the work of composers Rob Simonsen and Jonathan Sadoff, I didn’t really know what to expect from one of their film scores, and when I first heard the score for Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, one of the first things I thought was that it reminded me in many ways of Mychael Danna’s music, or perhaps a screen adaptation of a darker Broadway musical. As it turns out, I wasn’t too far off the mark – Danna and Simonsen have actually collaborated on scores, and Sadoff and Simonsen have captured a lot of the animated melancholy that defines so much of Danna’s score work.
