Kevin Conroy Joining The CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths Crossover

To much excitement from the fandom comes news that Kevin Conroy will be playing Bruce Wayne in the CW’s upcoming crossover event, “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” With Conroy’s casting, it could mark the first time Conroy portrays Bruce Wayne in live-action. Prior, he has played the Caped Crusader in a variety of animated television series including Justice League and Batman Beyond. Perhaps, he is best known for his earlier work on Batman: The Animated Series. He brings quite a bit of panache to the role and it has caused fans to celebrate his portrayal. However, he has never played the character in a live-action format.

At 63 years of age, it would be appropriate for the actor to play the character older. What’s not known is whether or not it will actually be a full-on portrayal or just a voice over a computer. While this is a live-action situation, it might be that it’s simply a voice over the computer as they have done in the past. For some, that could be a bit of a letdown since most of the media is playing this up as a straightforward live-action appearance.

It would be surprising if they did include a sonic bomb alarm clock either. It would make the most sense for the character to simply be a voice in the future they encounter. It would seem unusual to have Conroy onscreen as a fully-fledged Batman. Likely, that will be the case that happens. It’s very unlikely that Wayne will have any big role throughout the crossover since the primary character it likely focuses on are Oliver Queen, Kara Zor-El, and Barry Allen as well as the Legends. It would be great to see more characters get their due but this is the final sendoff for some characters such as Queen.

So, it will be interesting to see what they can to accomplish across the multiverse of characters. It’s something that has never been done before and the ambition is clear, especially in bringing back others such as Brandon Routh’s Superman and Burt Ward’s Robin. What brings them together and how remains the mystery the audience still has yet to figure out. The only thing we know is that the Monitor has been preparing for a crisis of these sorts and it will be fascinating to see how this whole Crisis is orchestrated in comparison to previous crossovers.

The likelihood is this will not be a direct adaptation due to the constraints placed on the CW. Either way though, there is a lot of excitement surrounding this even if it doesn’t have a sonic bomb alarm clock. It remains to be seen just how massive this crossover will be and whether it truly stretches across the DC Universe as a whole.
