Constantine to Help The Legends of Tomorrow Fight Evil

If fans of John Constantine miss the character from his show Constantine or his appearance on Arrow, they do not need to worry. While the character and his show will not be returning back to NBC, it does not mean they will never see him again. Not only does he have his own animated series coming to CW Seed, he will also be returning to the live-action Arrowverse with an appearance on Legends of Tomorrow. Back in early August, Phil Klemmer, an executive producer on the television series, stated it would be sad if Constantine could not make an appearance on the forthcoming season of the show.

“If the show goes as many seasons as I hope it does, it would be a crime for [Constantine] not to appear in our universe,” Klemmer said. It makes sense too actually given the villains of the new season. There’s a new group of supernatural foes that the group will be going up against that includes Damien Darhk, Kuasa, the granddaughter of Amaya Jiwe/Vixen, and Gorilla Grodd. The name of the group has still been hidden from those interested.

“I have a new for them that I would love to see referenced on the show,” Marc Guggenheim, another executive producer on the show, stated. “But like the Legion of Doom, we have to figure out a way to get it in there.” With the supernatural group of evil established, it makes sense now that both and Rotten Tomatoes have both confirmed Constantine coming onto the show. Klemmer told fans what they can expect in an appearance from the petty dabbler.

“We get to do a little Amblin alien episode back in the ’80s; we do some Jack the Ripper Victorian London; Golden Age of Hollywood; John Constantine doing an exorcism,” Klemmer stated. While those other parts of the season sound really interesting, the return of Constantine is something fans have been wanting since his show came off the air.

The character originally appeared on Constantine back during 2014. The show only lasted until February 2015 when the show’s first season ended. There was hope among fans the show would be approved for another season but in May of that year, it was canceled. Signs looked bad when NBC decided not to order any more episodes in November 2014 beyond the episodes that had already been made.

That same year saw the premieres of both The Flash and Gotham, which are both in their fourth seasons on The CW and Fox respectively. If Constantine would have continued on, it would be safe to assume the show would be in its fourth season too. However, the character is also returning in another form outside of his live-action appearances on the Arrowverse shows.

A new Constantine animated series will premiere on the CW Seed in 2018. It will consist of five to six 10 minute episodes and will follow the character’s continued journey after his series concluded and his appearance on Arrow. He will be voiced by the actor who portrayed him in his live-action appearances, Matt Ryan. The show is being developed by David Goyer, one of the original showrunners for the series, and Greg Berlanti, the producer for and creator of all the Arrowverse shows.

With the character returning, fans can hope there will be more appearances for the character going forward. There are still so many more stories to tell with Matt Ryan’s John Constantine.
