The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Blu-ray Review

The girl on fire comes to Blu-Ray in the final installment of franchise, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2!

Katniss Everdeen has had a long road going from a moderately unknown hunter from District 13 who won the 74th annual Hunger Games with fellow District 13 resident Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games, to somewhat inadvertently helping overthrow the entire system during the third Quarter Quell in Catching Fire, starting a revolution in Mockingjay: Part 1, and finally seeing her journey come to a climactic end in Mockingjay: Part 2.  The evolution of YA (young adult) novels perhaps may have no stronger of a candidate for the genre’s success than The Hunger Games franchise with a story both climactic and romantic in nature, but also blending a coming of age aspect as well that has resonated with a massive worldwide audience.

Unlike other franchises aimed directly at one genre or demographic due to extreme stylistic or thematic tendencies, The Hunger Games franchise came right out the gate with a strong showing that those desiring a strong female character someone to love admire and root for, but also didn’t take away form her femininity.  The character of Katniss, played by Jennifer Lawrence throughout, is no less captivating to follow as we see her through on her path.  Wherever that may lead and whoever she may be standing by when all the chips are laid out.  Although the subsequent films have strayed from this path as the franchise moved along, with a heavy love triangle between Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta and Liam Hemsworth’s Gale Hawthorne, millions around the world pined to see the finale of the franchise, what happens to the characters they love, the fate of Katniss, and what the future holds for the world of Panem.

In case you missed it in theaters, or just loved it, here are the details on the Blu-ray release.

Realizing the stakes are no longer just for survival, Katniss Everdeen teams up with her closest friends, including Peeta, Gale, and Finnick, for the ultimate mission. Together, they leave District 13 to liberate the citizens of war-torn Panem and assassinate President Snow, who’s obsessed with destroying Katniss. What lies ahead are mortal traps, dangerous enemies and moral choices that will ultimately determine the future of millions.
