First Look at Jon Bernthal as The Punisher in DAREDEVIL Season 2

Unlike Daredevil, Season 1’s slow approach to introducing the Kingpin, Season 2 hits the ground running by introducing Frank Castle aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) in the very first episode.

“The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in,” says show runner Doug Petrie to Entertainment Weekly. “We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could.” With The Punisher, and later Elektra, already on the scene, the story can get on with Matt Murdock struggling to find a moral high ground as things get worse in Hell’s Kitchen.

As some of you may already know, Frank Castle is an ex-Special Forces soldier whose family is killed brutally by members of a mob. As a result, he becomes The Punisher and mows down every known criminal in New York with his vast inventory of guns. Obviously, Frank is considered a divisive character and is long considered an anti-hero rather than just a hero. As The Punisher, you don’t even have to be a super villain or a mobster to expect a call from him. And that’s where we should expect him and Daredevil to butt heads. Petrie adds:

Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves. Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.

Along with more violence, Daredevil season 2 is expected have more sex as well. Matt gets closer to Karen, played by Deborah Ann Woll, (uh oh, what about Foggy?), and then his old college girlfriend returns to wreak havoc on his life. You may have her of her: Elektra (Élodie Yung), another anti-hero who happens to be a ninja/mercenary.

Daredevil returns sometime in 2016.
