Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now in theaters and most of us have seen it and have our opinions on Adam Driver’s portrayal of Kylo Ren.

I’m not going to post any spoilers, I’ll try to be as vague as possible, although I’m sure…like I said, most of us have seen the film already. This is a quick opinion! Someone who hasn’t seen it might stumble upon this article and they might not know who Kylo Ren is or want to know yet so I don’t want them to deal with spoilers! Spoiler free is the way to be!

So, did you like Adam Driver’s portrayal of Kylo Ren? Kylo Ren is definitely not Darth Vader, but he’s showing how troubling it can be when you are trying to be a villain and follow in someone’s footsteps, but essentially you’re basically a young guy with emotions and struggles who does villain-y things. Although in the beginning of the movie he is quite scary. Then later in the film he does something that…well, makes us want to strangle him and throw him into a blackhole, but we saw conflict in that moment, whether fake or not…there was something. Not every villain immediately becomes one and becomes the best one, sometimes villains struggle to stay with a villain mentality because they can be saved. Adam Driver’s portrayal of Kylo Ren showed all that. The struggle. The struggle to want to be something, that you fully aren’t. Adam gave Kylo Ren the scary vibe, anger, trickery, pain, but he also a human side. Also, whenever he got angry he would just lightsaber things around him. He had temper tantrums. He wanted to be respected. He created such a special ‘villain’ that I’m sure will become even better in the next films and who knows…maybe he’ll be saved? If you’ve seen the movie, you know why I think he can leave the dark side. Do you want him to become even better than Darth Vader? Should he leave the dark side?

I could also be taking his character the wrong way, but this is just my various observations and takes on it! So if you’ve seen the film, what did you think? Was Adam Driver’s portrayal as good as you’d hope? Did you want to see Kylo Ren develop into an immediate crazy villain? Did you love the movie? Not like it?
