Kaboom – Top 5 Movie Explosions

In honor of July 4th I have decided to put together a list of some of my favorite movie explosions. Looking back there have been so many awesome explosions throughout film.

You may be thinking that Michael Bay would rule this list, but do not worry none of his films even make my top five. Why you ask? Because Bay’s films don’t have much more substance aside from their explosions. There is nothing wrong with that, but I prefer my action movies to make me want to care about the characters with the help of a decent story. Keep reading for my favorite movie explosions.

Top 5 Movie Explosions (In No Particular Order):

Die Hard

Yippee Kay Yay Mo Fo’s. Die Hard is not only one of my favorite action movies, it has some great explosions. I love the characters and the concept of one man taking on a small army.

Smile you son of a bitch! I recently had the chance to watch Jaws on the big screen to celebrate it’s 40th anniversary. It was my first time seeing it in such a large format and it was amazing. The timing of this line and what I presume to be one of the last bullets is just awesome.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Fury Road is one of my favorite films of 2015. George Miller is a genius at creating immersive post-apocalyptic worlds with heroes we can root for. I had to add the film to the list because there are some pretty cool movie explosions like the ones above that will make you live, die and then live again.

Independence Day

I am not sure how I feel about the upcoming Independence Day movie, but I do know that the original is a classic full of some cool explosions. From the destruction of NYC to the White House blowing up. Check out the clip above to see for yourself.

Star Wars IV

Stay on Target, What kind of geek would I be if I didn’t include the explosion of the Death Star. This is one of my favorite movies and one of the best explosions on this list.
