‘Harry Potter’ to Continue As Stage Play

For those of you who never got your Hogwarts letters and live in London (even if you don’t and want to travel specifically for this), there will be a musical called Harry Potter and the Cursed Child making its stage debut in 2016.

J.K. Rowling took to Twitter to make the announcement saying:

“I’m also very excited to confirm today that a new play called Harry Potter and the will be opening in London next year.”

“I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans.

As it turns out, Cursed Child will actually be an extension of Harry’s story (an untold part) and isn’t going to be a prequel. Rowling has already gathered an amazing team to help create the stage play including writer Jack Throne (Skins and Shameless) and director John Tiffany (Let the Right One In and Broadway musical Once).

“The announcement falls, as Rowling noted, on the 18th anniversary of the UK release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Rowling is staying quiet on details of the plot of Cursed Child, but promises that it is perfect for the stage: “It was the only proper medium for the story.”” (x)

While I am incredibly excited that we’re getting another extension of this amazing world that Rowling has created, I am sad that I wont get to experience the play myself. I look forward to seeing casting images, costumes and reviews though! For those of us who cannot make it to London, we can keep waiting patiently for Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them hitting theaters in November of next year!
