5 Smartphone Titles Released From Nintendo By March 2017
During Nintendo’s Financial briefing this Saturday, it was announced by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata that the company will be releasing approximately 5 smartphone games by the end of March 2017. The first game will be released before the end of 2015.
President Iwata explained:
“You may think it is a small number, but when we aim to make each title a hit, and because we want to thoroughly operate every one of them for a significant amount of time after their releases, this is not a small number at all and should demonstrate our serious commitment to the smart device business.”
To properly operate the smart device business, Iwata explained that several organizational and personnel changes were made. The Mario Kart series producer was chosen by Iwata to be in charge of the smartphone project but gave no specific game. Back in March during a press conference, an partnership was announced between Nintendo and mobile game developer DeNA. Nintendo will lend DeNA IP to help create new smartphone games that consumers can enjoy as part of their goal. The purpose of the combined effort is because smartphones games need constant service.
Along with developing the games, DeNA and Nintendo is also developing a new membership service that can be used on 3DS, Wii-U, PCs, tablets, and the newly announced system NX. The membership service will begin this Fall and customers will be able to use one common ID on multiple devices.
“With this new membership, we are planning to deploy services that will make playing Nintendo games with their game pals more fun regardless of which platform they are accessing.”
