Watch Disney’s Newest Trailer for DESCENDANTS

Good news: Some of the biggest (and dickish) Disney villains found someone just as twisted as they are to willingly procreate with them. Y’know what? Good for them. Even the most evil can find love somewhere. At least, that’s the angle we’re sticking with. Bad news: Not only did Disney make a movie about their kids, which is titled Descendants, but it the story also sounds like the kind of fan fiction I wrote when I was 10. Wait, did Disney read my fan fic? Nah. I didn’t even have a computer back then (fun fact: my family didn’t own a computer until I was in 8th grade. I had to deal with a typewriter from the 70s before that).

Descendants-castNot to be confused with THE Descendants, starring Shailene Woodley and George Clooney, Disney’s Descendants is a live-action modern day fairytale that introduces Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay, the teenage descendants of re-imagined Disney villains – Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Cruella de Vil and Jafar.

The story is sent in a world where Beast and Belle rule the land, and their newly of-age son (who becomes king?) decides to pardon the children of all the Disney villains. These said villains never died but placed on an island prison. Upon being pardoned, the children are invitated to go to the prep school that’s been founded for all the heroes’ kids such as Chad Charming, the Fairy Godmother’s daughter Jane, and the daughter of Shang and Mulan, “Lonnie.”

Never mind. This isn’t at all what I used to write in my fan fiction. This is beginning to sound more like Monster High. Y’know those Bratz-looking dolls? The fashion lines up, too.

By the looks of the trailer, Descendants doesn’t look half-bad for a straight-to-Disney-Channel-movie. Plus, it stars the magnificent Kristen Chenoweth as Maleficent. I hope she gets to sing.

Descendants premieres this summer on Disney Channel U.S., followed by Disney Channels around the world.
