Synopsis:

Seven women – sisters of the Alpha Kappa Pi sorority – and their gay best friend reunite for a weekend to celebrate their pal Alice’s birthday. But at the remote ranch where they settle for leisurely days of gossip, girl time and grub, something soon seems amiss. A number of margaritas into the first night, a dark secret is revealed. The cabin is the site of a gruesome mass murder of teenage girls on a sleepover 15 years earlier. Blood still stains the floor under new carpets and the killer still runs free. The women take the ghost story for what it seems – a tall tale on a stormy night – and at first, the story only adds to the romance of the ranch. One girl sneaks off with the hired hand. Another seeks to rekindle her old college flame. But after a third turns up – dead – the story no longer seems silly and sex is the last thing on anyone’s mind. One by one they are cut down, victims of the particular vanities they flaunt in each other’s faces. Soon the girls turn on each other, accusing one another of jealousy and murder. As the fun-filled weekend turns into a race against death, they wonder: which Crazy Bitch will make it out alive.

At first glance, I wasn’t too sure what to expect from a movie titled, “Crazy Bitches“. I never try to judge a movie based on it’s poster or trailer a whole lot. I’ve learned from past movie going experiences, that those two things might be horrible, but the movie could be excellent. And vice versa. While I didn’t find the trailer or poster for Crazy Bitches that great, I tried not to keep my hopes high before viewing the film. Turns out I had good reason.

Crazy Bitches wasn’t as fun as I thought it’d be. It’s humor was bland and it’s story was worse. I had a hard time getting invested because the characters were just too… un-relatable? I think that’s the word I’m looking for. The movie is supposed to be a comedy/horror hybrid, but it lacks both of things. It’s not funny and it’s not scary. Yes, it’s a low budget film. So I will give them kudos for putting together what they did. But it’s lack of direction and editing make it even harder to recommend. I couldn’t wrap my head around all the flashbacks. They seemed to be fit for a soap opera on CBS. I also thought, while being pretty clean nudity wise, that the sex scenes were all meaningless and really put in places they didn’t belong. Also, the sex scenes seemed way too gratuitous. There. I said it.

As for the story, I just couldn’t get invested. It was definitely a slow burner, but the sad fact is, it never payed off. It stayed that way till the end and even then it wasn’t that great. I would recommend this film to people who enjoy independent horror movies and can appreciate them for what they are. I understand what goes into making a film and while it may not be great (to me), at least they’ve created something they’re proud of.
