X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Hires Three New Faces for Three Familiar Characters

X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer officially announced on Twitter yesterday that Fox just signed three young actors to play three of X-Men’s most iconic characters: Game of Throne’s Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, and Alexandra Shipp as Storm.

You already know Sophie Turner as the older Stark daughter, Sansa, who is constantly trapped in the middle of political intrigue and possible death. She’d make a good fit as Professor X’s young pupil/protégé. As long as they leave that beautiful red hair alone! Remember how Famke Jensen’s hair got redder with each movie? In Days of Future Past, it looks like she just stuck her hair in a vat of Manic Panic’s Vampire Red.

Tye Sheridan’s last major movie role was opposite Matthew Mcconaughey in the highly praised movie, Mud. I, personally, haven’t seen him in anything so I’ll leave my judgement for the next X-Men movie. He certainly has the same mouth shape as the previous Cyclops actor, James Marsden. That’s something, right?

Alexandra Shipp has mostly been seen in television roles, including Your Family and Mine. Halle Berry played Storm in the previous X-Men films. To me, there’s more pressure on Shipp in terms of portraying an iconic mutant. While Berry did have some fans for her portrayal as the storm goddess, there was an equal amount of disappointment among die hard fans. At what stage of Storm’s life we’ll find her is currently unknown, but we’re looking forward to seeing a fresh face play such a cool lady.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to be released in theaters May 27, 2016.
