FXX Announces New Late-Night Animation Block
FXX is officially getting into the late-night animation business. On January 22nd, the FX and FOX sibling will launch a one-hour late-night block that is essentially Animation Domination HD, but it seems to lack the branding of FOX’s experiment with late-night adult animation. It’ll have a lot of the same content, though.
The block will be spearheaded by new episodes of Lucas Bros. Moving Co and Stone Quackers, and will include encores of High School, USA! and Axe Cop, both of which come from the ADHD block.
The new block is something FXX is hoping will be big. It’ll premiere on January 22nd, but you have a couple of chances to take a sneak peek before then. On January 1st, immediately after the network’s special New Years’ Simpsons marathon with new episodes of Lucas Bros. and Stone Quackers, as well as old episodes of High School, USA! and Axe Cop. Then, on January 8th, after the season premiere of Archer, the network will present new episodes of the two shows.
Lucas Bros. Moving Co, starring the Lucas Brothers, Keith and Kenny as they run a moving service in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in a van inherited from their uncle. While they do, they go on all sorts of bizarre adventures (season one included a time-travel adventure back to the 80’s via a magic beeper that once belonged to Eddie Murphy’s chauffeur, and to a town full of runaway dads who skipped out on their families years ago to join a dad utopia), get advice from friends like Jerrod (Jerrod Carmichael), retired wrestler and WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts, and their mom (Hannibal Buress). This season’s guests include Jimmy Tatro, Michael Che, Eric Andre, Action Bronson, ?uestlove, Danny Brown, YG, and Tyler, the Creator.
Stone Quackers is executive produced by actor and Tim and Eric regular John C. Reilly and artist/creator Ben Jones, and stars a group of duck friends who live on Cheeseburger Island who, according to the network’s press release, “endure hardships ranging from hurricanes, severed heads to dangerous hot dogs and the shame of being alive”. Based on the upbringing of comedians Whitmer Thomas and Clay Tatum of Hollywood, CA comedy live show PowerViolence, the show will star Reilly, Heather Lawless, Pam Aldon, Rory Scovel, and Budd Anthony Diaz. It will also include music from a wild trio of bands, The Zombies, Lightning Bolt, and The Doobie Brothers.
If you happened to catch the ADHD Halloween special after FXX’s Halloween Simpsons marathon back in October, you may have seen Stone Quackers and a new episode of Lucas Bros. Stone Quackers is an insane show, and personally, I’m pretty excited. Lucas Bros. Moving Co. was one of the highlights of the original ADHD block when it was on FOX.
Check out the new block, exclusively on FXX, January 22nd at Midnight.
