Adult Swim at New York Comic Con 2014: Panels, Autographs, Boats

We’re a little under a month from my favorite event of the year. This is my vacation. I don’t take other vacations (okay, maybe I did this year, but still). New York Comic Con 2014 is nearly here– so close we can almost taste it (and almost touch our badges that are in the mail)– and Adult Swim has provided their NYCC lineup. Panels and autograph signings abound, like every year!

One big shocker is that one of the highlights of the con each year, the Venture Bros panel, is missing. It’s a real shame. Each year, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick put on one hell of a show in the main panel room at the Jacob Javits whether they had news about the show or not. The show’s “Let’s All Smoking” panel from two years back which had a theme song, Fresca, and touted a no-show-ing Air Supply is going to be a long-lasting con memory. This will be the first con in years without a Venture Bros panel.

As for what’s there? There’s a bunch. Shows new and old have time reserved in panel rooms around the con center for the 9th-13th of October and we’ll be at every one of them. Because none of them seem worth missing. Plus, for everyone 21 and older, Swim has a little cruise set up for you.

On Saturday, October 11th, Adult Swim will host the Adult Swim Tyrannic Maiden Voyage along the Hudson River. The three hour cruise touts sights and sounds of NYC including an “up-close look at Lady Liberty”, plenty of Adult Swim people, and a performance by a secret musical guest. If you want in, fans 21 and up can RSVP starting September 29th over at adultswimpresents.com. It’s free. Swim did this once before in 2006 in San Diego, and that was probably a hell of a party. This will probably rule too, so get your RSVP in quick. If you miss the RSVP, you can hit a Swim panel, impress the panelists with a good question, and win yourself a golden ticket. If you’re old enough, get in on this.

Now, let’s look at some panels, shall we?

Friday, October 10:

Kick off your weekend with a panel for the upcoming, untitled Jack McBrayer/Triumph The Insult Comic Dog sitcom. From 2:30-3:15 PM on the Main Stage, Robert Smigel (creator of Triumph, also known for the TV Funhouse segments on Saturday Night Live) and Jack McBrayer (30 Rock, Wander Over Yonder) will discuss the new show, answer some questions, and hey, who knows, maybe they’ll give you a title for the series that’s set to air in 2015.

Next up, the big one: Rick and Morty take over the main stage from 3:20-4:05 PM. Dan Harmon (co-creator, also creator of Community), Justin Roiland (co-creator, Lemongrab from Adventure Time), and Chris Parnell (Jerry Smith, Saturday Night Live) will talk the show, show off new, unseen content, and answer some questions that had better be good (remember, there’s a prize this year!). There’s a second season coming. Go to the panel, get amped up for more.

Robot Chicken will wrap up your Friday Adult Swim panel block on the main stage from 4:15-5:00 PM. Seth Green (co-creat0r), Matthew Senreich (co-creator), Breckin Meyer (actor/writer), and Clare Grant (actress, voice actress. Iron Man: Rise of Technovore  as Black Widow, Black Snake Moan) will discuss the series as well as the upcoming holiday special, The Robot Chicen Lots of Holidays But Don’t Worry Christmas Is Still In There Too So Pull The Stick Out Of Your Ass Fox News”. Good title. See a preview of the special, and a look at Clare Grant’s new pilot, Team Unicorn Saturday Action Fun Hour! Swim’s Keith Crofford will moderate. Sounds fun! Be there!

Satuday, October 11:

Saturday has three big panels for you. The third one is massive, but they all sound like a hell of a lot of fun. Sit your ass in Room 1A10 and enjoy.

Black Dynamite is going to get your Saturday evening rolling as Carl Jones (executive producer,  The Boondocks), Scott Fuselier (producer, The Boondocks), Michael Jai White (Black Dynamite himself in the show and film), Tommy Davidson (Cream Corn, In Living Color), and Byron Minns (Bullhorn, Forrest Gump, South Central) will discuss the upcoming second season that premieres October 18th on Swim from 5:00-5:45 PM in 1A01.

From 5:50-6:35 PM, what was once a miniseries, PFFR’s The Heart, She Holler will take the room over to talk about the upcoming third season premiering this December. Amy Sedaris (Hurshe, Strangers With Candy), Scott Adsit (30 Rock), Judith Roberts (Meemaw, Eraserhead, Orange is the New Black), John Lee (executive producer, Wonder Showzen), Alyson Levy (executive producer, Wonder Showzen) will all be on the panel for the show, where they’ll take questions and screen a never-before-seen episode. Moderated by Gordon Lish.

Finally, the big deal: from 6:45-7:30 PM, 1A10 gets taken over by Mike Tyson Mysteries, one of the most exciting, most hilarious-looking shows hitting Adult Swim this year (October 27th, to be exact!). They’ll show off some clips and delve deeper into the show. The man himself, Mike Tyson will be there, next to cast member Rachel Ramras (MAD), and producer Hugh Davidson (The Looney Tunes Show). You definitely don’t want to miss this one.

Signings? Signings! Get you some autographs from your favorites during NYCC weekend.

Saturday, October 11:

12:00 PM-1:00 PM in Hall 1B’s Autographing Area: Robot Chicken stars Seth Green, Matthew Senreich, Breckin Meyer, and Clare Grant will be signing.

1:15-2:15 PM: Hall 1B’s Autographing Area: Rick and Morty‘s  Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland will be signing!

So, how’s that? How’s all that sound? Have your weekend planned out? Damn right you do.

Adult Swim Central will be there all weekend and we’ll be keeping you up to date as best we can (here’s hoping for some good wifi or data service this year) on the Swim happenings, so watch all of our things.

October 9th-12th, Adult Swim Central will be taking to the Jacob Javits Convention Center in NYC. We’re gonna have a great time, and if you’re going, we hope you do too. If you’re not, we’ll make sure you still have a great time with some good news and things.

Hope to Streetpass y’all at the con.
