Nintendo recently made an official announcement about the DLC for Mario Kart 8, and it does look very promising. There will be 2 DLC packs, each including 3 new characters, 4 vehicles and 8 tracks, priced at $7.99 each or $11.99 for a bundle. If players pre-purchase both packs, they are offered 8 new colors for Yoshi and Shyguy characters as a bonus, which is usable immediately!

The first pack will be available late this November and it will feature Link and several Legend of Zelda inspired tracks, as well as some reworked classic tracks. Also included in the pack will be Tanooki Suit Mario, Cat Suit Peach, an F-Zero kart as well as several mystery karts. The second pack, coming next May, will be an Animal Crossing crossover introducing a Villager character, Isabelle and Dry Bowser, a skeleton version of the Koopa king (Too spooky!). The pack will also include 4 new Animal Crossing related tracks, 4 classic tracks, and 4 new vehicles. I’m wondering how the Amiibo figures will work with this, since it was mentioned at E3 that the figures will be usable with Mario Kart 8.

Also available for free on the Nintendo eShop is a bundle of 3 Mercedes Benz cars for use in Mario Kart 8 and some fancy new Mercedes tires as well. The 2 packs being available for $11.99 is a rather affordable price, and should add some rad new life into Mario Kart 8. Unfortunately, those who want to test the Hero of Time’s great racing skills he honed at Hyrule Driving Academy will have several months to wait.
