Ranking the Top Eight Seth Rogen Movies
There have been few stars bigger in the world of comedy over the past decade then Seth Rogen, who is starring in Neighbors, coming out today. In honor of this release, we are ranking the eight best movies where Seth Rogen is one of the stars. We aren’t including movies like 40-Year-Old Virgin and Superbad, where Rogen is one of the side characters. And I haven’t seen Guilt Trip, and I don’t plan on doing that anytime soon. We hope you enjoy our list of best Seth Rogen movies, and be sure to check out Neighbors this weekend.
8. Observe and Report
This is actually a pretty funny movie, and light years ahead of it’s same-time theater counter part, Paul Blart Mall Cop. But when you compare it to the now classics comedies that Rogen has starred in since, this movie doesn’t hold up very well.
7. Zack and Miri Make a Porno
Another case of a movie that doesn’t quite hold up over time. However, this movie has without question one of the best comedic cameos ever with Jason Long as a gay pornstar. If you haven’t seen this bit, you’re welcome.
6. Green Hornet
I’m one of the few it seems that actually enjoyed this movie. Sure Rogen was an unusual pick for a super hero, but I thought he pulled it off well, and I loved his partnership with Cato. It was certainly a departure from his usual comedic work, and I’m bummed that it bombed in the box office, as I would like to see more of this side of Rogen.
5. Knocked Up
Knocked Up was Rogen’s first shot at the lead, and unlike some of the previous movies on this list, it certainly holds up over the years. Rogen’s crew of Jay Baruchel, Jason Segel, and others provide constant entertainment in a film that is real and ridiculous at the same time.
4. Pineapple Express
This generation’s version of Cheech and Chong, Pineapple Express gave us first hand insight to the stoner lives of James Franco and Seth Rogen. While most of the funny parts are in the trailer, it’s certainly a great movie to have on in the background, and provides for plenty laugh out loud moments.
While 50/50 is a departure from Rogan’s usual comedic roles, it’s still one of his best and one of the best movies he’s been in. Rogen plays the best friend of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a cancer victim given a 50-50 chance of living, and while Rogen is mostly there for the comedic effort, he is still one of the best parts of the film.
Yes, this may be high praise for Rogen’s latest movie, but Neighbors is truly an instant classic. Whether is figuring out ways to deal with the college kids next door, or showing off the ridiculous level to which he reached to land Rose Bryne, the movie provides constant laughs. If you are a fan of Rogen’s other comedic work, you will love this film.
1. This is the End
Anyone who saw our list of best movies from last year isn’t surprised by this ranking. This is the End was my favorite movie from last year, and is easily one of the best comedic movies I’ve seen in a long time. Rather than play characters, some of our favorite comedic actors, Rogen, Franco, Robinson, etc, simply play themselves following an apocalypse one night. What ensues is 90 minutes of some of the most brilliantly written and improvised material on the big screen in a long time.
