Chick Flicks: April 2014 – CUBAN FURY, THE OTHER WOMAN and More

chick flick – (n.) 1. A movie that targets a primarily female audience.
(e.g., most rom-coms, rom-drams, rom-droms and the like)
2. A movie centered around a strong female protagonist.
NOTE: Although commonly misconstrued as such, the term is not, in fact, a pejorative or a synonym for
The Notebook.
What’s In A Name?: Re-Defining “CHICK FLICK”

Normally I’d write an intro…but honestly, I think that the good people at FiveThirtyEight said it all earlier this week, in their analysis of The Dollar-And-Cents Case Against Hollywood’s Exclusion of Women (April 1, 2014). They certainly did an excellent job of presenting a notion I’ve always known to be true: There’s money to be made by films that prominently feature women, whether they’re chick flicks or not.
