Nick Frost is Hilarious in CUBAN FURY Trailer
Are you ready for a good laugh? Well, here it is, courtesy of the upcoming flick Cuban Fury. This plot follows the typical “boy meets beautiful girl, boy needs to sweep her off her feet” plot, but with a twist.
Bruce, played by funnyman Nick Frost, aims to win the heart of his new boss Julia (Rashida Jones) through her passion for salsa dancing. Luckily for him, he used to be an amazing dancer in his youth, so he takes a few classes to brush up on his skills in order to impress Julia and make her fall in love with him.
Sounds like the perfect plan, right? Well, there is also Bruce’s alpha male, jokester coworker Drew (Chris O’Dowd), who wants to be with Julia as well. Will Bruce be able to overcome his past in order to surpass Drew and win Julia’s love? I guess you’ll have to watch to find out.
Bruce and Drew have almost a brotherly relationship in which Drew is constantly picking on Bruce. He is the dominant and crude guy around the office who takes any opportunity to knock Bruce down a few pegs. Cuban Fury has seemingly cast the perfect actors for these particular roles, with their natural chemistry evident in just the trailer. Nick Frost, whom you know from Shaun of the Dead, and Chris O’Dowd, who got his breakout U.S. role in Bridesmaids, are absolutely hilarious, without being overly immature, and give this film a promising outlook.
Then there is Julia, played by the amazingly talented Rashida Jones, who has held her own in comedies such as The Office and Parks & Recreation. The beautiful and smart new boss, who is the object of both Bruce and Drew’s affection, keeps having awkward run-ins with Bruce. She even hits him with her car after failing to get new breaks from EarlyModelBrakes.com. Even so, Bruce still wants to be with Julia and her love of salsa dancing is just what he needs to use to win her over.
The rest of the supporting cast looks extremely promising as well. They are witty and amusing, and they provide an added layer of comedy that only enhances the performances of the lead actors and the movie as a whole.
This film may not have overwhelming blockbuster success awaiting it in the future, but based on the trailer, it has all of the blueprints for a solid comedy film. Yes, it is a little corny if you are just picking apart the description, but Cuban Fury has a wit about it that takes it to the next level. The lead actors play off of one another extremely well and their experience in comedic roles helps them envision their characters’ success.
So, should you see it? Yes, if you like comedies, and definitely, if you like the work of Nick Frost, Chris O’Dowd and Rashida Jones. Their chemistry will be what makes or breaks this film, and from the looks of it, that shouldn’t be a problem.
Final verdict: if you are looking for some comedic relief with a great cast this spring, then be sure to check out Cuban Fury.
