Jack Tretton Steps Down from President and CEO of SCEA
Sony America Prez and CEO, Jack Tretton, announced that he is stepping down from his position starting March 31, 2014. Shawn Layden, who is currently the executive vice president and COO of Sony Network Entertainment International, will take Tretton’s place as of April 1, 2014.
“This is a result of a mutual agreement between Mr. Tretton and SCEA not to renew their contractual relationship,” said Sony in the press release. Tretton has been at SCEA since 1995, and played an important role in the launch of all major Playstation platforms from the PSOne to the PS4.
Tretton released his on personal message on the Playstation blog, thanking the many fans of the Playstation brand. “I want to thank you for constantly pushing PlayStation to deliver breakthrough gaming and entertainment experiences, and to never settle for ‘good enough.’ The embodiment of this commitment can be found in the PS4, which has quickly become the #1 next-gen console worldwide…thanks to you.”
Shawn Layden was one of the founding members of SNEI in 2010, joining the company directly from Sony Computer Entertainment, where he most recently held the position of President, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan. Layden also contributed eight years at SCE Worldwide Studios in London where he directed international software development.
We’ll miss you, Tretton. You’ve been one entertaining guy to watch, especially this past year. We’ll always have E3 2013 to remember you by.
