Best Actress in a Supporting Role

LAFCA winner Lupita Nyong’o looks like the victor, but June Squibb is winning some prizes from the critics, too. She might have the first Payne-helmed performance to win an Oscar. Expect the HFPA and SAG to bring Oprah Winfrey back into the conversation.

1. Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years a Slave

2. June Squibb for Nebraska

3. Jennifer Lawrence for American Hustle

4. Oprah Winfrey for Lee Daniels’ The Butler

5. Octavia Spencer for Fruitvale Station

6. Sally Hawkins for Blue Jasmine
7. Julia Roberts for August: Osage County
8. Scarlett Johansson for Her
9. Margo Martindale for August: Osage County
10. Sarah Paulson for 12 Years a Slave

SAG Predictions

The superstars sit on the sidelines as the breakthrough and the veteran character actress compete for the win. Well, that’s how I see it at least.

1. Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years a Slave

2. June Squibb for Nebraska

3. Jennifer Lawrence for American Hustle

4. Oprah Winfrey for Lee Daniels’ The Butler

5. Octavia Spencer for Fruitvale Station

6. Sally Hawkins for Blue Jasmine
7. Julia Roberts for August: Osage County
8. Scarlett Johansson for Her
9. Margo Martindale for August: Osage County
10. Jennifer Garner for Dallas Buyers Club

Golden Globe Predictions

Oprah could easily win this. The HFPA has had few opportunities to honor one of the world’s biggest celebrities, and the Oscar buzz gives her a shot. Critical favorite Squibb, however, is less certain. The lack of love for Fruitvale might hurt Octavia Spencer.

1. Oprah Winfrey for Lee Daniels’ The Butler

2. Lupita Nyong’o for 12 Years a Slave

3. Jennifer Lawrence for American Hustle

4. June Squibb for Nebraska

5. Sally Hawkins for Blue Jasmine

6. Octavia Spencer for Fruitvale Station
7. Julia Roberts for August: Osage County
8. Scarlett Johansson for Her
9. Margo Martindale for August: Osage County
10. Amy Adams for Her
