Playstation 4 Game Launch Trailers Roundup!

Hey Invaders, the Playstation 4 is in our grubby, sweaty palms, and we’ve prepared a veritable smorgasbord of Playstation 4 game launch trailers to satiate your Pavlovian droolings for some eye candy. Feel free to eat until you vomit pixels.

Killzone Shadow Fall

The Killzone franchise has dependably been the benchmark of a new Sony system graphics-wise, as it was with the first Killzone on the PS2, showcasing their blockbuster system. Killzone 2 was released early into the PS3’s life, and Killzone 3 rounded out the system’s golden years in 2011. All 3 games impressed me with their ability to squeeze every pixel out of aging living room hardware. Killzone Shadow Fall doesn’t look to break with that tradition. Billed as the PS4’s Halo-slayer, Killzone Shadow Fall looks loud, nasty, if not familiar entry into the launch lineup.

Okay, I fibbed. This isn’t really a “launch trailer” forBungie’s forthcoming Destiny, but rather a trailer tied into the launch of the PS4. Destiny is not due until 2014. Iknow, I hornswaggled you. I bamboozled you. Like a roguish sneakthief, I have sold you a copper tub filled with snake oil. But the trailer actually has some schnazzy-looking gameplay in it, so we’re even.

Assassin’s Creed IV

That’s right. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, sadly not starring Henry Rollins, is a PS4 launch title. Landlubbers, grab yer rum, a sturdy wooden leg, that bedazzled eyepatch you like so much, and the rest of your pirate cliches and set sail for some open world pirate escapades.

You may not have heard of Contrast. Shame on you. You were all tizzy-headed and googly eyes at orange explosions when you could be oogling some artsty farty platformers! Have I taught you nothing? Obscure digital titles are the future! They’re really not, but I like them! I don’t have to explain myself! Get out of my office!

And now for something that’s not the color of explosion. I mean, there’s explosions in it, but more ACME-flavored as opposed to James Cameron blue-orange gritty urbanscape. Knack breaks the mold of the PS4 adult-centric lineup with something lighter, even if it includes human genocide, it’s fun human genocide with adorable, family friendly maniacs. For a while, I wasn’t even sure if the main character had a voice. This looks like a bag of fun, showing off the robust physics engine the PS4 is capable of, and a cartoony cousin of games like Ratchet and Clank. Sony is diversifying their launch lineup much more than I expected.
