SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Finale: Winners Decided
Warning: There are spoilers for the So You Think You Can Dance Finale! Don’t read further if you don’t want to know the winners!
After one of the best and most action packed seasons in the show’s exsistence, Season 10 of So You Think You Can Dance is in the books. Thousands of dancers auditioned, and last night, it was down to the final four: Amy, Fik-Shun, Jasmine, and Aaron. In the end, Fik-shun won the guys vote, and Amy won the girls, also pulling in the most votes overall. I was surprised that Amy was the top vote-getter, but thrilled, as they were my favorite couple from the start.
This was the first time that an original couple has won “best male” and “best female” dancers since they have officially instituted that winner format, but it’s not the first time an original couple has made it to the end. When hip hopper Joshua won in Season 4, his partner Katie finished third, and won the show’s first ever impromptu “top girl prize”. Then in season 8, Marko and Melanie made it to the finale, with Melanie taking home the title, while Marko too settled for third.
In honor of the power couple Amy and Fik-Shun winning, we look back on a couple of their best routines. The first number the duo did together was a jazz number choreographed by Sonya Tayeh. This emotional number was the top piece from the Top 20 show, and established these two early on as the team to beat. What I loved in this number is the impressive technique that Fik-shun, an untrained street dancer, showed here. And I knew Amy was going to be strong after Vegas week, and she showed just that. Check out the winner’s first dance together, “Elsa”.
My favorite number of the two was the second week hip hop number “After Party”, but that was danced again last night. Instead, we will show you the jazz number they did the following week in the Top 16. This Tyce Diorio number has Fik-shun and Amy as two likeable hobos. Once again, the two had a chance to show off some personality, and they did just that and more. Pieces like this are why America fell in love with these two, and voted them as the ultimate winners. Check out our next Fik-shun Amy piece, Under the Bridge.
