COCKNEYS VS. ZOMBIES Blu-ray Review

Just in time for the annual Geek Christmas in Austin, Tx. that is the wonderfully fantastic, Fantastic Fest, comes a Blu-ray review of one of last year’s selections; Cockneys Vs. Zombies! While another zombie movie might just make you automatically roll your eyes, this one just might surprise you in a good way.

Official Synopsis:

When some down-on-their-luck old-timers are at risk of losing their home to developers, a group of young, inept criminals decide to take matters into their own hands. The only thing standing in their way? A zombie outbreak in London! Now, it’s up to a bunch of east-enders to fight their way out of the zombie-infested city, led by an unlikely gang of amateur bank robbers and foul-mouthed, plucky pensioners.

Starring Michelle Ryan (Bionic Woman, 2007), Honor Blackman (Goldfinger), Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger, 2013), Richard Briers (Much Ado About Nothing), and Alan Ford (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), this “funny, likeable and gory zombie comedy delivers… it’s a laugh riot” (Time Out)!

So, the zombie genre might be a little tired. How original can that concept be really? The answer is not that original, but there are still ways you can have fun with, like this movie demonstrates. The leads do a good job, though this movie isn’t driven by performance. What it is driven by works very well. Gore, practical effects, comedic gags, everything hits its mark and makes Cockneys Vs. Zombies worth a rental at least.
