What We’re Looking Forward To At D23 Expo!
It’s been two years since we have been down in Anaheim for D23 Expo (also known colloquially as Disney Con), and we are excited to be going back this weekend! While the event goes from Friday-Sunday, we will only be going for the two weekend days. While Comic-Con is the big show, D23 Expo is getting bigger every year with the latest additions to the empire including Star Wars and Marvel. D23 Expo now even covers top notch TV shows like Once Upon a Time and Modern Family. A pilot preview at the last D23 Expo is actually why my wife and I tuned in to Modern Family to start with back when it premiered. This year has some great panels in store, here are a few things that we have planned for the big weekend!
Let the Adventures Begin: Live Action at The Walt Disney Studios
Unlike it’s San Diego counterpart Comic Con, D23 Expo doesn’t have many big budget movie panels that fans will be lining up overnight to see. However, this is one of the few that will draw a world of attention, and we will be two of the people in attendance. On tap, Disney will be talking about Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: Winter Soldier, and Muppets Most Wanted, amongst a few other films. In addition to the stars appearing on panel, there will be some exclusive video clips from each movie!
The Art of The Good Dinosaur
Not much has been released about this upcoming Pixar theatrical release, so The Good Dinosaur panel should have a slew of new images and insight in to the picture.
Toy Story OF TERROR! and the Motivation Behind Pixar’s Short Form Content
Pixar continues to be at the top of the short animated film game, with the latest short Umbrella breaking new ground in animation technology. And while feature-length Toy Story films may be over, they have a lot planned for those characters in a series of short films, with each getting a moment in the sun.
Richard M. Sherman and Alan Menken: The Disney Songbook
While you might not know these guys’ names, you definitely know their work. Contributing songs to hits like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, The Little Mermaid and even Little Shop of Horrors, you likely grew up singing their songs constantly. I know I did and still do. For one night they’ll be performing on stage and this could be a huge highlight of the Expo. – Kristal Bailey
To Infinity and Beyond: Disney Interactive Takes the Stage
Ready to take a glimpse into the future? To Infinity and Beyond will reveal some never before seen games, apps, and action figures from the Disney lineup! The co-presidents will be on hand to show amongst other things, the world premeire of Blank: A Vinylmation Love Story, along with a look at one of thier upcoming web series’s, and a demo of the upcoming video game Fantasia!
ESPN Films Screening of The ’99ers
ESPN Films continues their Nine for Title IX, a group of movies honoring women in sports, with a preview screening of The ’99ers. Perhaps the most famous women’s sports team of all time, this movies profiles the Women’s Soccer National Team who won the World Cup over China in 1999. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s director Erin Leyden and producer Julie Foudy, who starred on the team.
Exclusive Screening of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Having missed this panel and screening at Comic-Con, I’m stoked that I’ll (hopefully) be able to catch it now. Marvel + Joss Whedon = Amazing.
