Meet the New DOCTOR WHO: Peter Capaldi

Doctor Who-vians, meet the 12th Doctor – Oscar winner, Peter Capaldi! Known for roles in In the Loop, The Thick of It, and his Academy Award winning turn as director of the short film Franz Kafka’s It’s a Wonderful Life

The BBC show announced the new Doctor during a live special on BBC Sunday. Many fans were hoping the Doctor Who franchise would shake things up by having either a woman or person of color as the next Doctor. However, they decided to break the mold by casting an older white male than the previous incarnations. Capaldi will take over the role during the 2013 Christmas special, one month after Doctors collide for the 50th Anniversary special.

So Whovians – what do you think? A new great Doctor or a missed opportunity to invigorate the series? While it’s already very popular, casting a woman and/or minority could have brought in waves of new fans.
