Tom Hardy to Star in Takashi Miike’s THE OUTSIDER
Tom Hardy is set to star in Takashi Miike‘s first English-language film, The Outsider. Deadline reports that Miike is currenlty in negotiations to direct the Andrew Baldwin script. The Outsider is reportedly an “epic story set in post-World War II Japan, chronicling the life of a former American G.I. who becomes part of the Japanese yakuza.”
The film is being financed independently, with filming set to take place in Japan early next year. It’s based on an original idea by John Linson, who is on board as a producer with Art Linson under their Linson Entertainment banner. In addition Joel Silver, Andrew Rona and Steve Richards will produce for Silver Pictures.
Tom Hardy is a great actor, and very versatile. He is in talks to play Elton John in the biopic titled Rocketman, which is being directed by Michael Gracey. Hardy can next bee seen in Mad Max: Fury Road. He also stars in Animal Rescue directed by Michael R. Roskam. He’ll also be seen in the Daniel Espinosa-directed Child 44 for Scott Free and Summit.
The Outsider will be Miike’s first film stateside. He has over 60 Japanese-language films under his belt, including Ichi the Killer, 13 Assassins and Audition. I think Hardy is a great choice to star in this film.
