AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. – First Look
Today has been a deluge of TV news with all the latest renewals, new series pick ups and cancellations. You can keep track of all that on our Upfronts post. There’s been one pilot that I’ve been watching like a hawk about since the beginning of this whole TV season: Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
If it were just a new show from Joss Whedon, I’d be excited. If it were just a new live-action Marvel show, I’d be excited. But the fact that it’s both just basically blows my mind.
Clark Gregg will reprise his role as Agent Coulson, and will be joined by Ming-Na (Stargate Universe) as former soldier Melinda May; Chloe Bennet as hacker Skye; Elizabeth Henstridge as science expert Gemma Simmons; Iain De Caestecker as techie Leo Fitz and Brett Dalton as hot shot Agent Grant.
And joining Joss behind the camera will be Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen (there names will sound familiar to any Whedon fan, they only worked on Dollhouse and Dr. Horrible’s Sing-A-Long Blog) along with Jeffrey Bell from Angel and Jeph Loeb from Smallville fame.
So far there isn’t much else out there on the show besides the first promotional photo below, but ABC’s planning to air the first teaser for the show this Sunday during the season finale of Once Upon A Time. Looks like I’ll be tuning in to that show for the first time since it’s premiere.
Official Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Synopsis:
Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).
From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television.
