5 Must-See Movies in May

We know not everyone has time for every major release or big movie, so instead of featuring 10 great films a month, these are truly the ones that cannot be missed this May.  They’ll either be films coming out in theaters that week or something on Netflix I think that’s worth the watch.

As the start of the summer movie season, May has some major releases! Check out my last post for back in April.

If you do check out anything I’ve highlighted or think I left off a crucial film, tell us about it in the comments section below!

Week 1 Must-See Movie: Iron Man 3

Out in theaters yesterday (May 3rd) it’s directed by Shane Black and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and more! It’s already destroying box office records worldwide and has gotten plenty of great reviews

Marvel’s ‘Iron Man 3’ pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Week 2 Must-See Movie: The Great Gatsby

In theaters on May 10th, it’s directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton, and more! Judging by the trailers, it looks like it’s going to be a fantastic movie! Already starting the Oscar for DiCaprio campaign…everyone can join!

Based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, this drama focuses on mysterious man of wealth Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his love for the beautiful — and married — Daisy Buchanan (Carey Mulligan). Baz Luhrmann directs the film in 3D, with Isla Fisher,Tobey Maguire, and Joel Edgerton rounding out the starring cast.

Week 3 Must-See Movie: Star Trek Into Darkness

Out in theaters on May 17th, it’s directed by J.J. Abrams and stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg and more! It looks like quite an epic sequel! I’m really looking forward to Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance!

The Star Trek franchise continues with this follow-up to 2009’s J.J. Abrams-directed reboot. Abrams returns to direct from a script by Damon Lindelof and the writing team of Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. The crew of the Enterprise engages in an epic battle of good versus evil after being summoned home, only to discover Starfleet in ruins, and they venture into a war zone to find the powerful villain (Sherlock’s Benedict Cumberbatch) responsible for the devastation.

Week 4 Must-See Movie: Fast and Furious 6

Out in theaters May 24th, it’s directed by Justin Lin and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Gina Carano, Ludacris and more! It looks like it’s going to be quite epic and much better than the previous films.

Since Dom (Diesel) and Brian’s (Walker) Rio heist toppled a kingpin’s empire and left their crew with $100 million, our heroes have scattered across the globe. But their inability to return home and living forever on the lam have left their lives incomplete.

Meanwhile, Hobbs (Johnson) has been tracking an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers across 12 countries, whose mastermind (Evans) is aided by a ruthless second-in-command revealed to be the love Dom thought was dead, Letty (Rodriguez). The only way to stop the criminal outfit is to outmatch them at street level, so Hobbs asks Dom to assemble his elite team in London. Payment? Full pardons for all of them so they can return home and make their families whole again.

Week 5 Must-See Movie: The Hangover Part III

Out in theaters may 24th, it’s directed by Todd Phillips and stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Justin Bartha, John Goodman and more! It’s going to be a fun conclusion! I’m expecting this one to be much better than the second one.

‘The Hangover Part III’ is the third and final film in director Todd Phillips’ record-shattering comedy franchise. This time, there’s no wedding. No bachelor party. What could go wrong, right? But when the Wolfpack hits the road, all bets are off.
