TRACK LIFE: Run the Jewels – “Get It”

Welcome to Track Lifea  semi-regular column in which Jacob Knight shares what he thinks to be the best in music, both new and old.

El-P produced Killer Mike’s insane 2012 record R.A.P. Music (which might actually be my favorite album from last year) and, in turn, Killer Mike dropped one of the best verses of the year on El-P’s Cancer For Cure (which is equally as good as R.A.P). Now, the two newly minted best buds are taking their alliance a step further, forming a duo called Run The Jewels.

About three weeks ago, the two teased a clip from their song “Banana Clipper,” but they’re getting set to drop a mix tape online via Fool’s Gold in June, and today we finally get to hear a full cut. “Get It” is just a mammoth summer jam, custom made to be blared out of soft-top Jeeps while cruising down the block. And with Mike and Jaime trading verses with some old school “pass the mic” flare, the track almost seems to feed off of their infectious, goof-ball energy.

All of the sudden, Danny Brown’s Old has some competition for “best rap album of 2013”.
