It’s been a few years, so you may have forgotten the young adult book series and first film, Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. The book and first film follow the journey of young demi-g0ds (children of one human parent, one Greek God parent) as they train and grow up in the human world. The first film starred a cast of young newcomers who have now risen in notoriety since its release, including Perks of Being a Wallflower star Logan Lerman and The Host star Jake Abel

The first trailer for the sequel Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters has just dropped and it certainly feels like a bigger and better adventure flick. The stakes are higher and it introduces the titular Sea of Monsters, which we humans know as the Bermuda Triangle. While the first film was directed by Chris Columbus (Harry Potter 1 & 2, Rent), this one is helmed by the less experienced but full of potential, Thor Freudenthal. He knows how to craft a family friendly film that adults can enjoy as well, having directed the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Add in a couple more jokes and an awesome cameo from geek favorite Nathan Fillion and you’ve got yourself a promising sequel.

Kristal Bailey

With a soft spot for movies that fall into the “So Bad They’re Good” category, Kristal Bailey regularly watches B-movies, 80s comedies, and sci-fi from the 50s and 60s. She also refuses to grow up if that means she has to hide her love for Disney and Pixar films.

In her free time, she enjoys reading graphic novels or books that are soon to be turned into movies, watching hours and hours of television, and spending way too much time on Twitter.
