New STAR TREK: THE GAME Screenshots Surface

The new upcoming Mass Effect I MEAN STAR TREK Game from Namco Bandai and Digital Extremes recently posted a cargo-bay load of new screenshots. For those of you unfamiliar with this game, I’m cautiously optimistic about it. STAR TREK: The Game has a lot going for it. They didn’t rush out and release this 4 years ago as a half assed shovelware tie-in, and the game looks like it just may capture the retro-futuristic look of the 2009 reboot and the slick combat of other 3rd person shooters.

No company has ever managed to make an awesome, memorable STAR TREK game in my opinion, so I’m crossing my fingers for a well-polished, run-and-gun that will satiate the vacant  landscape, other than decent efforts like STAR TREK ONLINE. Honestly, it kind of makes sense they’ve never made a more console-friendly action STAR TREK game, very few of the other shows or movies in the franchise have really presented material that translates well to the video game format. Remember how many episodes of ST:TNG that were solved by people standing in rooms talking? About, I don’t know, all of them.

Check out the new screenshots below:

“I heard you like green ladies, Kirk.”
“HA HA NOTHING IS WRONG EVERYTHING IS FINE.”
“Are those two redshirts dead yet? No. Okay.”
“Sulu, just park this thing anywhere. I have hot aliens to rescue and/or bone!”
It is illogical to appreciate this attractive vista. So don’t. I mean it.
“They tore my favorite onesie. FIRE EVERYTHING. YES, EVERYTHING.”
You got some lens flare in my fire particle simulation.
Lens flares in 1080p! It’s the future!
“Commander, we have torn Kirk’s onesie. Mission accomplished.”

J.J. Abrams’ lens-flaretastic take on the STAR TREK universe  is the best source material for a game in recent years, and it’s borrowing heavily from Mass Effect’s super-tight gameplay style, so I’m hoping it’s not a big suck. Expect the game to beam down on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on April 23, 2013. Check out more info on the game’s homepage.
