WILLOW Blu-Ray Trailer Reveals Beautifully Remastered Scenes

Willow, one of my favorite movies from my childhood is coming out on Blu-ray and DVD!  Though it pains me to know the occasion for this release is the 25th anniversary, I couldn’t be more excited!  As a kid from the 1980’s, this is one of the be-all, end-all fantasy films.  I think those of us who grew up during this time were fortunate in the amount and quality of children’s movies that were released in the eighties.  It is no wonder there are so many thirty-somethings who tout themselves not only as movie-lovers, but as movie experts.

The special effects in Willow were progressive at the time of the movie’s release in 1988.  This magic of this film lies less in the subject matter and more in the amazing way the film makers find a way to take the viewer through a full range of emotions.  Love, joy, sadness, humor, fear, anger; it’s all here.  The trailer shows a beautifully remastered film that shows breathtaking landscape and what looks like it will be a whole new viewing experience.  Watch the trailer below and get excited!

For those of you who haven’t seen this amazing film, a) do so immediately and b) read more about Willow below:

When young Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis; Harry Potter franchise) finds an abandoned baby girl, he learns she is destined to end the reign of the wicked Queen Bavmorda (Jean Marsh; “Upstairs, Downstairs”). In order to protect the child, Willow must team up with a rogue swordsman (Val Kilmer; Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) and overcome the forces of darkness in the ultimate battle of good versus evil!

Some of the new features fans will find on the blu-ray would make any film lover giddy with excitement.

The Willow Blu-ray and DVD include a dazzling array of extras with never-before-seen exclusive content such as deleted scenes with remarks from Ron Howard, a personal video diary of Warwick Davis, matte paintings and much more. In addition, look out for Ron Howard’s new introduction for the original 1988 featurette “The Making of an Adventure,” as well as special effect legend Dennis Muren’s new intro to his piece, “From Morf to Morphing: The Dawn of Digital Filmmaking.”

Special Features:

WILLOW is presented in widescreen with 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio (Lossless).Special features include:

  • NEW – Willow: Deleted Scenes with Ron Howard
  • NEW – Willow: An Unlikely Hero – Personal Video Diary of Warwick Davis
  • The Making of an Adventure with an all new introduction from Ron Howard
  • From Morf to Morphing with an all new introduction from Dennis Muren

I never, ever tire of this film and look very forward to watching Willow in all it’s beautifully remastered glory, not to mention reliving my first crush on the beautiful and trouble-causing Madmartigan (Val Kilmer).  My favorite thing about the rerelease of movies that I loved so very much from my childhood is the opportunity to share these moments and magic with my own daughter.  Willow will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on March 12, 2013.
