One of the most exciting games of this year’s E3 convention, The Last of Us, has been given a new trailer as well as a release date. The latest trailer introduces us to more than just Joel and Ellie, the only two characters we’ve come across in any detail thus far. It seems that Ellie has been entrusted to Joel as part of an agreement to get her out of the city. Of course the major issue is the zombie-fungus infection as well as the threat of other humans. Another element that is introduced in the trailer is what seems like para military intervention (about half way through the trailer) as well as some sort of resistance movement (note the scrawled “RISE” as Joel walks past).

The Last of Us will be released on 7th May 2013 exclusively on PS3.  Also announced was a multiplayer mode that will be part of the game. While some will feel that this is just a tacked on addition Naughty Dog’s community strategist Arne Meye defended the decision saying that “We don’t approach MP in any of our games as tacked on…And we also always have separate teams working on the different components so that we can maintain full focus on making SP and MP up to our standards”.  For now though we ought to be thankful for this much information as it has been one of the most mysterious games of the year.[PSAccess]
