FLIGHT Movie Review
I made sure that I went into this film with an open mind after reading numerous reviews. I can tell you now that I am glad I did, because it was definitely worth the ride. After three years, director Robert Zemeckis is back with probably his most intense movie to date. Flight is going to be talked about for a while – the film does some pretty bold stuff and takes the audience and a memorable ride.
Flight stars Denzel Washington, as Whip Whitaker, an alcoholic airline pilot. I can honestly say that this is definitely Denzel’s best performance since his Oscar winning performance in Training Day. He loses himself in this role, and is hands down one of the best depictions of an alcoholic that I have ever seen. From his drunken stupors to the really emotional moments, he delivers time after time making me lose myself in a great film.
The supporting cast was amazing as well. My favorite by far was John Goodman’s role Harling Mays, Denzel’s drug buddy and supplier. Goodman provided a lot of laughs in this one, providing some great comic relief for intense points in the film. Don Cheadle plays Hugh Lang, Washington’s attorney in the film. Another supporting role comes from Bruce Greenwood playing Washington’s Union leader, and friend. Finally, Kelly Reilly plays Nicole, Washington’s love interest.
Flight, in my opinion made some very huge strides in cinematic achievement, that really blew my mind and had me up in my seat at times. The film depicts one of the most intense plane crash scenes that I have ever seen. It’s also one of the most realistic depictions I have seen, that will have viewers holding their breath.
Another huge storyline and theme in the film is alcoholism. Denzel’s character is a severe alcoholic and you see plenty of it in the film. At certain points it’s infuriating to watch him damage himself more and more to the point of anger towards the main character. He does an amazing job of depicting the disease as well as depicting the effects.
I recommend this film entirely. The acting, the directing, the writing, the cinematography are near flawless. The film is definitely one of the best of the year and could possibly sneak its way into an Oscar run.

After further investigations, news is brought to light about Washington’s physical state of the crash, leading to a suspenseful ride that is frustrating and exciting all the way to the ending credits.
