THE RAVEN Blu-Ray Review

Edgar Allen Poe was one of the greatest writers in literary history. Many of his works have been adapted for film, but the man himself has never been fictionally portrayed on film. In The Raven, John Cusack plays the famous writer as he has been tasked with helping find a serial killer who is dispatching of his victims using elaborate traps from Poe’s books.

Starring Cusack and Alice Eve, who plays Emily Hamilton, and faced with a brutal killer, Edgar Allen Poe is on the case in a blu-ray edition that is loaded with information about the man, and the mystery that was, Edgar Allen Poe. Among the extras included is a documentary fielded by two experts on Poe, and a thorough behind the scenes featurette, and much more.

The Raven as a film leaves a bit to be desired at times, and not very much of the film feels original, but it cannot be denied that John Cusack is doing his best at playing such an iconic character.

Official Synopsis:

Baltimore, 1849. While investigating a horrific double murder, police detective Emmett Fields (Evans) makes a startling discovery: the killer’s methods mirror the twisted writings of Edgar Allan Poe (Cusack). Suspecting Poe at first, Fields ultimately enlists his help to stop future attacks. But in this deadly game of cat and mouse, the stakes are raised with each gruesome slaying as the pair races to catch a madman before he brings every one of Poe’s shocking stories to chilling life…and death.
