THE LEAGUE: Season 3 DVD Review
The League has quietly come out of the shadow of being behind It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia, and quickly built up quite a huge fan following. It of course helps when the quailty of the show goes up, as The League is an example of a show that simply gets better and better every season. The biggest misconception about The League is that you have to play fantasy football to like it, which is not true at all. Sure, knowing football helps with some of the jokes, but all you have to do is enjoy friends who like being dicks to each other. I think we can all appreciate that.
I don’t know if worst is the way I would describe it, because their isn’t really a bad episode all season, but I’m going to go with “The Sukkah”. This is the second episode of the season, and it revolves around Ruxin (Nick Kroll), trying to get Baby Jeffrey into a fancy Jewish school. The episode uses a fair amount of Nazi and anti-sematic jokes and spray painting, and it just got kind of old for me after a while. However, the ending is great, when they accidentally unveil the porno they shot in Andre’s apartment in front of everyone, include the lady from the school. However, an ok but forgettable episode.
“The Out Of Towner” is such a good episode that it is my favorite of the season, and Rafi, one of the greatest characters in all of TV, isn’t even in it. Season 3 was the season of the guest star, with famous faces such as Sarah Silverman, Eliza Duskhu, and Jeff Goldblum, amongst others, making an appearance. However, no guest star is better then Will Forte, who plays one of their old best friends who is now a recovering alcoholic. The entire show, they try to get him to unleash his inner demon, and they fail, until the final scene, where Forte and the rest of the crew have cocaine laced drinks. Let’s just say: madness ensues.
To be a fan of The League, you don’t need to know much about fantasy football, or sports at all. You just need to have friends that you hate. The ensemble comedy follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league who care deeply about one another – so deeply that they use every opportunity to make each other’s lives miserable.

Most of the extended episodes don’t add a ton, at least I didn’t notice much that was different, but it’s still cool that they have extended versions of them all. The gag reel is great of course, as gag reels always are. I always enjoy seeing what scenes the actors found funniest, and how the smallest thing can get them giggling like school girls.
