Blu-ray and DVDMovie ReviewMovies

Well with the election just one week away, it only seems fitting that The Campaign, a story of a life long small town resident, Zach Galifianakis running for Congressman of North Carolina against the established incumbent, Will Ferrell.  The two of them run, well, a not-so-clean campaign, and the fun and laughs are there throughout the movie. Is it an instant classic from these two legendary comedians? Not quite. Is it a great movie for some laughs with your friends? Absolutely. Check out the official synopsis, along with a review of the special features below! You can also check out our original review of the film here!

When long-term congressman Cam Brady (Will Ferrell) commits a major public gaffe before an upcoming election, a pair of ultra-wealthy CEOs plot to put up a rival candidate and gain influence over their North Carolina district.  Their man: naïve Marty Huggins (Zach Galifianakis), director of the local Tourism Center.

At first, Marty appears to be the unlikeliest possible choice but, with the help of his new benefactors’ support, a cutthroat campaign manager and his family’s political connections, he soon becomes a contender who gives the charismatic Cam plenty to worry about.

As election day closes in, the two are locked in a dead heat, with insults quickly escalating to injury until all they care about is burying each other, in this mud-slinging, back-stabbing, home-wrecking comedy from “Meet the Parents” director Jay Roach that takes today’s political circus to its logical next level.  Because even when you think campaign ethics have hit rock bottom, there’s room to dig a whole lot deeper.

Special Features

  • Short Film: Line-O-Rama
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Gag Reel

On the Blu-Ray, which was released today, you can find the film, along with a few funny features. The main feature is Line-O-Rama, which is a compilation of improved lines that were not used in the film. Amongst the highlights of the bit include, Brady talking about Huggings: “He missed work for 75 days due to a condition called Scottish Diarrhea.” Some other gems include, “You fell from the girl at the carnival with two belly buttons,” and “You were so ugly at birth they called you Shit Happens.”

The best part of the special features is one particular deleted scene, where Brady and Huggins are sharing a drink together. Huggins is wearing an East Carolina jersey, and they get to discussing how he used to play college football. However, he didn’t make the NFL, due in large part to his “6.2 40 time and his 3 inch vertical.” Anyone who pays any attention to the NFL combine knows how funny that is.

Other highlights from the deleted scenes include Zach Galifianakis jumping out of a boat fully clothed, Will Ferrell being shot with an arrow, and an ad campaign made from a sex tape. Lastly, we have the gag reel, which of course is always great. There’s a funny bit where Galifianakis stumbles on his lines a few times, then says, “fuck it’s hard to talk like this.”
