THE CABIN IN THE WOODS Blu-ray Review

Easily one of the best movies of 2012 so far, THE CABIN IN THE WOODS finally hits blu-ray today. If it isn’t one of the best movies of the year, it’s absolutely one of the most rewatchable. It isn’t often anymore that a movie comes along that can be called an instant-classic. It turns the horror genre on its head and is one of the smartest scripts written for the genre. Originally filmed in 2009, it was shelved and for three years we were deprived of a really great horror film.

After an unusual opening scene, The Cabin in the Woods begins as a typical horror film, complete with every done-to-death-cliche in the book, but then quickly turns into a mind-blowing mix of mystery, comedy, and of course, even more horror. Written by Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard (he also directed) and starring Chris Hemsworth, this is a true must-own for any movie fan.

Official Synopsis:

A rambunctious group of five college friends steal away for a weekend of debauchery in an isolated country cabin, only to be attacked by horrific supernatural creatures in a night of endless terror and bloodshed.  Sound familiar?  Just wait. As the teens begin to exhibit standard horror movie behavior, a group of technicians in a control room are scrutinizing, and sometimes even controlling, every move the terrified kids make.  With their efforts continually thwarted by the all-powerful eye in the sky, do they have any chance of escape?
