Remake of AKIRA still alive

There have been many struggles in the attempt to get this AKIRA remake made here in the United States. At one point it looked as if things had fallen through but now things have taken a turn for the better. The word on the street is that Warner Bros. are looking to hire another new writer and have their eyes set on either Jonathan Nolan (DARK KNIGHT, DARK KNIGHT RISES) or Michael Green (Heroes, Smallville, GREEN LANTERN).

As far as talent for on screen goes, Garret Hedlund is the only actor to officially sign on for the film. Kristin Stewart and Ken Watanabe have been eyeing the film but no deals have been inked just yet. Other possible sign-on’s include Michael Pitt (Boardwalk Empire) and Dane DeHaan(WETTEST COUNTY, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES)

Thoughts on the recent ups and downs of AKIRA?
