Complete 2012 Midseason Television Premiere Dates

While the new year is just getting started, the television networks are wasting no time with the new television season! Starting tonight the major networks are having their returning hits and hopeful new shows hit the air waves with new episodes.

With so many midseason shows, it’s hard to choose which ones are worth the time in an already crowded TV schedule. Here are a few that I’ll be giving a few episodes to win me over.

Smash – NBC (Monday, February 6):
I’m a sucker for musicals, so this is definitely on my radar. Starring Kat McPhee (from American Idol non-fame), it follows on young girl’s journey to stardom by route of Broadway. The pilot got rave reviews from critics, and promises to be fun, entertaining, with a pinch of cattiness from the dueling leads.

Being Human – SyFy (Monday, January 16):
As discussed on The Small Screen Podcast, we really enjoyed Season 1 of this US adaptation of the hit UK show. Yes, vampires and werewolves have over-saturated the market a bit but it’s the relationship between these three supernatural roommates that sets it apart. Tune in to the second season on January 16. Haven’t seen the first season? Lucky for you, it’s available to stream instantly on Netflix.

Alcatraz – Fox (Monday, January 16):
JJ Abrams has definitely had some misses in his recent forays into television (I’m looking at you Undercovers), but I’m hoping this genre fare starring LOSTie Jorge Garcia is more in line with his hits. The show revolves around the inmates of San Francisco’s infamous prison, Alcatraz, as they all suddenly appear after having been missing for years. Equal parts The 4400 and Prison Break, I’m already interested to see where this show goes.

Archer – FX (Thursday, January 19):
Having seen the first few episodes from the upcoming season, I can say that this show is still just as hilarious and absurd as we’ve come to know and love. Featuring a great guest appearance from Burt Reynolds, Archer could be at the top of it’s game and you definitely don’t want to miss it.

With a soft spot for movies that fall into the “So Bad They’re Good” category, Kristal Bailey regularly watches B-movies, 80s comedies, and sci-fi from the 50s and 60s. She also refuses to grow up if that means she has to hide her love for Disney and Pixar films.

In her free time, she enjoys reading graphic novels or books that are soon to be turned into movies, watching hours and hours of television, and spending way too much time on Twitter.
