THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT gets a first decent trailer
THE FIVE-YEAR ENGAGEMENT looks like it will be another great film from writer director Nicholas Stoller (GET HIM TO THE GREEK and FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL). The movie follows Tom Solomon (Jason Segel) and Violet Barnes (Emily Blunt) as they get engaged and the years the subsequently follow. The original plan was to get married soon after then engagement but Violet is offered a job at the University of Michigan delaying the wedding for two years. And who saw it coming, but then she is promoted causing the wedding to be pushed back to the five year marker, hence the title of the movie.
It sort of seems like a dumb premise to me but the people involved in this movie immediately make me want to see it when it comes out March 27, 2012. Jason Segel, who stars and also partnered with Stoller on the screenplay, could not have been a better choice for the lead role. I find Segel to be one of the funniest new actors around. If you have never seen his TV show How I Met Your Mother then you have surely been missing out. Segel has also starred in such movies as THE MUPPETS, BAD TEACHER, DESPICABLE ME, I LOVE YOU, MAN, FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL, and KNOCKED UP where I like to think he first got noticed as a potential big screen leading man. Judd Apatow is one of the producer’s on the film which is definitely a good sign to all who undoubtedly know his name (Segel originally was on Apatows’ short-running show “Freaks and Geeks”). Emily Blunt is getting another go at the leading lady role; also seen in THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA among many others. I like Emily Blunt for this movie. In the trailer, she seems rather funny.
The movie also boasts a good supporting cast with the names Alison Brie (“Community”, SCREAM 4, and “Mad Men”), Rhys Ifans (the upcoming THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 1, THE REPLACEMENTS, and NOTTING HILL to name a few), Chris Pratt (“Parks and Recreation”, and MONEYBALL), Kevin Hart (DEATH AT A FUNERAL, SUPERHERO MOVIE, and FOOL’S GOLD), and Mindy Kaling (“The Office” and NO STRINGS ATTACHED).
The trailer itself is just funny. I didn’t laugh quite out loud like I want to but I’m hoping for a red band trailer to be released as the release date approaches. Don’t get me wrong! I definitely enjoyed the trailer. I just know the comedic chops of the cast and I feel like they just put a few jokes in the trailer so as to not ruin the entire movie.
If just by seeing the cast and crew involved alone doesn’t make you want to see this movie, then check out the trailer via Yahoo below:
