Could THE LORAX redeem the Dr. Seuss genre?

The first theatrical trail for DR. SEUSS’ THE LORAX was released today introduced by Danny DeVito via Yahoo. The animated movie is brought to us by Illumination Entertainment and distributed from Universal Pictures due out March 2, 2012. This is a adaption from the classic Dr. Seuss story The Lorax originally written in 1971. In this adaptation, a boy is in search of the one thing that will win the affection from the girl of his dreams. In order to make that happen, he must learn the story of the Lorax, a grumpy yet charming creature who only wants to protect his world filled with the lush Truffula trees which happen to make excellent clothing.

I am really hoping this Dr. Seuss adaption is a hit this time. I had high hopes for HORTON HEARS A WHO! but of course was let down. This movie comes in good hands from the creators of DESPICABLE ME and boasts a rather intriguing cast including Danny DeVito as the Lorax, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Ed Helms, Rob Riggle, and Betty White.

You should definitely check out the official THE LORAX website for some cool features including a great featurette looking inside the making of THE LORAX and a fun application that allows you to “Look like the Lorax” by adding a mustache to a picture of your choosing. I really enjoyed this trailer! It brought back many a childhood memory for me being that Dr. Seuss books were always my favorites. Let’s all hope that THE LORAX is a hit this time around. Here is the trailer thanks to Yahoo:

So, what did you think? Did it bring back old childhood memories for you like it did for me?
