Jose Padilha wants Fassbender for Robocop

Jose Padilha, director of Elite Squad and creative force behind the remake of Robocop, has expressed interest in casting Michael Fassbender as the aforementioned action hero.

The script that he and Josh Zetumer have been working on is nearing completion and they’re having a meeting with MGM this next week to discuss the future of the project.

Fassbender was the star of this year’s Jane Eyre and X-Men: First Class and recently won the award for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival for the controversial Shame.

Padilha describes his vision of the film like this:

“I will not repeat what [Paul] Verhoeven has done so clearly and strongly. Instead I try to make a film that will address topics that Verhoeven untreated. If you are a man changes into a robot, how do you do that? What is the difference between humans and robots developed? What is free will? What does it mean to lose your free will? Those are the issues that I think.”
