Soderbergh to work on stripper comedy with Tatum based on "a wild time" in the actor’s life

Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum are working on the stripper comedy Magic Mike, based on the actor’s real-life experiences of becoming a stripper when he was 19 years old in Tampa, Florida.

Tatum, seen recently in The Eagle, will play Magic Mike, a stripped who teaches a young dancer the tricks of the trade.

Steven Soderbergh, the director famous for experimental, independent and blockbuster work from The Girlfriend Experience to Oceans Eleven, said:

“It’s sexy, funny and shocking. We’re using ‘Saturday Night Fever’ as our model, so hopefully we’re on the right track.”

Tatum added:

“This was a wild and pivotal time in my life and I couldn’t be more thrilled to go down the rabbit hole with Steven.”

Soderbergh and Tatum worked together on the upcoming action-thriller Haywire.
