James Franco options novel ZEROVILLE with plans to direct

James Franco, the Oscar nominated star of 127 Hours and this year’s host of the same awards ceremony, has optioned the rights to direct the Hollywood based novel by Steve Erickson, ZEROVILLE, under his Rabbit Bandini Productions banner. He also hopes to direct the feature.

Miles Levy and Vince Jolivette will produce alongside Franco and are eyeing an early 2012 starting date for the filming.

The novel is a darkly comic tale about a 24 year old student who travels to Hollywood at the end of the 1960s with hopes of becoming a movie star.

It was named one of the best books of 2007 by Newsweek, The LA Times and The Washington Post and was notable for its fictionalised inclusion of characters from Robert De Niro and Brian De Palma to Ryan O’Neal and Paul Schrader.

What do you think of the story? Are you excited to see Franco direct?
